It somehow seems even more appropriate than ever this Memorial Day to offer a special remembrance and recognition to the Massachusetts 54th Regiment, the Union Army's 1st, all volunteer, regiment of 1100+ African American soldiers who were willing to sacrifice everything for the preservation of the United States Of America against the Confederacy and its allies so long ago. I can imagine what they would ask and what they would say to us today. Please read the article I have linked in order to provide further information.

Thank you, Noah, for your pointed recognition of the Massachusetts 54th along with your recognition that "the Confederacy and its allies" are still threatening the existence of the U.S.A. here and now. I, too, can imagine what the members of the 54th would say to us.

they would say much the same thing that I've been saying for decades now.

if they knew how it turned out for their kind and the republic, I doubt they'd have been so eager to die for their "country".

I believe that people of valor generally loathe pussies.

absolutely!!

Add in the Tuskeegee red tails, the Nisei 442nd Regiment and others.

american history, not taught in this shithole for maybe 6 decades, is lousy with noteworthy military units made up of NOT whites. Is it telling that all we know about them is from the movies?

another small group about whom americans should be taught: the wind talkers. Our history is filled with wonderful deeds by those who would never be expected to care enough to do them. But so few know of them.
