Is It Too Harsh A Punishment To Hang High-Ranking Coup Plotters Against The U.S. Government?

On December 12, 2020, 11 very far right House Republicans met with Trump at the White House to plot a coup. Six of them later asked for pardons, althougfh Trump ignored their pleas. Besides Trump himself, the coup plotters that day included Mike Pence, Rudy Giuliani, Mark Meadows and these members of Congress:

  • Andy Biggs (R-AZ)- asked for a pardon

  • Scott Perry (R-PA)- asked for a pardon

  • Matt Gaetz (R-FL)- asked for a blanket pardon that would also cover his sex crimes

  • Gym Jordan (R-OH)

  • Jody Hice (R-GA)

  • Marjorie Traitor Greene (R-GA)- asked for a pardon

  • Paul Gosar (R-AZ)

  • Brian Babin (R-TX)

  • Mo Brooks (R-AL)- asked for a pardon

  • Jody Hice (R-GA)

  • Andy Harris (R-MD)

  • Louie Gohmert (R-TX)- asked for a pardon

None of these coup plotters have been arrested, let alone charged with a crime, although Scott Perry’s phone was seized by the FBI and is the subject of on-going litigation. All 11 should have been tried and hung by now. Instead 8 of them— Biggs, Perry, Gaetz, Jordan, Traitor Greene, Gosar, Babin and Harris— are still in Congress, still working to overthrow the U.S. government.

On the day of that meeting, Traitor Greene had never even sat in one session of Congress, not having been sworn in yet and just a congresswoman-elect. Last week, she told her constituents that she hates her job and she sounded like she’s thinking of quitting!

“The nature of this job… it keeps Members of Congress and senators in Washington so much of the time, too much of the time to be honest with you, that we don’t get to go home and spend more time with our families, our friends, you know, all in our district, or maybe just be regular people because this job is so demanding, and it’s turned into practically year-round. And for those of us in the House of Representatives, we have to run for Congress every two years. So you’re practically campaigning nearly the entire time that you’re here serving as a representative. So that’s just a couple of examples that I can give you that I believe is a recipe for disaster, and that’s how people just fall into this social club. I would call it a social club here in Washington, DC. Now, for me, I have no interest in that. I really don’t. And I’ll tell you why. Becoming a Member of Congress has made my life miserable. I made a lot more money before I got here. I’ve lost money since I’ve gotten here. I have people come up to me and say crazy things to me out of the blue in public places that they believe because they read it on the Internet or saw it on some news show about me. So it’s not a life that I think is, like, something that I enjoy because I don’t enjoy it.”

None of the 8 coup conspirators still in Congress should be there. Hopefully they’ll all decide to retire. Because of gerrymandered seats none of them are being targeted by the DCCC. This is the partisan lean of each of their districts, none of which, with the possible exception of Scott Perry’s are even remotely competitive:

  • Marjorie Traitor Greene- R+45

  • Gym Jordan- R+40

  • Matt Gaetz- R+38

  • Brian Babin- R+35

  • Paul Gosar- R+33

  • Andy Harris- R+25

  • Andy Biggs- R+24

  • Scott Perry- R+9

There’s a rumor that the DCCC may go after Perry this cycle. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Reminder: This is still a member of Congress!!
