Progressive congressional candidate Pervez Agwan is running ing against one of these corrupt reactionaries, Big Oil darling Lizzie Fletcher. This morning he told me that Fletcher’s “refusal to advocate for a raised minimum wage just shows how out of touch she is with the folks in District 07. The minimum wage hasn't increased since 2009; meanwhile the cost of living has skyrocketed and people are struggling to pay their bills. We need this increase, and I would co-sponsor legislation to make it happen without hesitation if I'm elected to Congress.” If you’d like to help people in the Houston area make that change, you can contribute to Pervez’s campaign here.

Bernie, in introducing the same bill in the Senate, said “The $7.25 an hour federal minimum wage is a starvation wage. It must be raised to a living wage– at least $17 an hour. In the year 2023 a job should lift you out of poverty, not keep you in it. At a time of massive income and wealth inequality and record-breaking corporate profits, we can no longer tolerate millions of workers being unable to feed their families because they are working for totally inadequate wages. Congress can no longer ignore the needs of the working class of this country. The time to act is now.”

Eventually the people on the list above will be asking for money for their campaigns. Don’t give it to them— and don’t give it to the DCCC, which spends big to support them. Are they better than Republicans? Not on raising the minimum wage; most ion them are the same as Republicans.
