Trump's Crazy Self-Created World Is Starting To Collapse Around His Ears— Will His Response Be War?

Soon We'll Be Asking Ourselves If Vance Or Trump Is Worse

On Monday, the NAACP announced that Trump isn’t invited to its national convention— the first time in the civil rights organization’s 116-year history that it has excluded a sitting president— citing what it described as his attacks on American democracy. ‘The president has signed unconstitutional executive orders to oppress voters and undo federal civil rights protections; he has illegally turned the military on our communities, and he continually undermines every pillar of our democracy to make himself more powerful and to personally benefit from the U.S. government,’ NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson said Monday, announcing the group’s decision.”

A decade of Trump turning the world upside down since the golden escalator ride to hell, wrote Charlie Sykes. Conventional political analyses do not come close to describing the way our world has been turned on its head. Yes, the GOP lost its spine and its balls; Democrats flailed; the electorate realigned. The entertainment wing of the GOP routed the establishment. Much of the rest of the media has been enshittified. But that really doesn’t capture the velocity or the scope of the transformation. It’s not just our politics. America has become dumber, crueler, crazier, and more violent. To much of the rest of the world, we have become unrecognizable. Institutions we thought were solid turned into vapor. ‘Principles’ were discarded like used Kleenex. Truth was battered, twisted, and drifted toward irrelevance. Ancient bigotries were revived and became mainstream. The fever swamps overflowed. The best lacked all conviction while the very worst were full of passionate intensity. Imagine telling your 2015-self how the party of law and order would embrace rioters who beat cops; or that the party of ‘character’ and ‘values’ would turn power over to a convicted felon and a ketamine-soaked oligarch with a chainsaw. Imagine trying to explain how the party of American Exceptionalism would become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Vladimir Putin. Or that America’s fattest law firms and billionaires would grovel at his feet. In the Before Times, conservatives used to say that character mattered. Bragging about rape and grabbing women by the ‘pussy’ used to matter. So did sedition, fraud, graft, and chronic lying. Ten years on, they are our daily companions, and we almost numb to it. Ten years on, nothing matters.”

Sykes jumped ship but every Republican who hasn’t, is complicit. Millions of them. Complicit it what? Everything— from the corruption and bribery to the ripping apart of the country, the souring economy and an impending war with Iran. Even some of his own staff think he’s unfit to be president— “but people are too scared to act on it,” although probably eager to see J.D. Vance in the Oval Office instead, not a very appetizing thought to any normal human being.

Yesterday, Richard Rubin reported that Trump’s big ugly tax and spend bill “would increase budget deficits by $2.8 trillion through 2034 after factoring in the projected economic growth the bill would create, leading to more red ink than previously estimated, according to the congressional Budget Office. CBO’s analysis of the House-passed bill undercuts one of Republicans’ main arguments for the legislation. The bill’s authors have argued that critics are ignoring the economic boom that the tax cuts and President Trump’s other policies would create. That larger, faster-growing economy, they contend, would throw off enough extra tax revenue to cover the $2.4 trillion gap between the bill’s tax cuts and spending cuts. The new CBO estimate says the opposite would happen. The bill would, effectively, un-pay for itself.  According to CBO’s projections, the economy would grow somewhat faster than if Congress did nothing and let tax cuts expire. But when it comes to the federal government’s bottom line, higher interest rates would overwhelm the extra revenue coming from that growth.”

The Republican bill is extremely unpopular with the public— supported by just 23% of voters, meaning that even many MAGAts aren’t supporting it— and losing more and more support from Republicans in Congress by the day.

Can Trump salvage it with a rally-round-the-flag war with Iran? Most Americans don’t want to see Israel drag Trump into a war with Iran. Maybe Trump thinks once Iran kills some U.S. soldiers stationed in the Middle East, he can turn public opinion around. And Iran is preparing to respond to American bunker-buster attacks against the Fordow and Natanz uranium enrichment facilities with missile attacks against U.S. bases in Doha, Bahrain, Kuwait, UAE, Kurdistan (Iraq), Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Syria. Maybe even Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. Señor TACO has been playing what ever role he’s playing by sending out a series of repulsive social media posts like these two doozies:

And this one, directed at the admittedly kooky Tucker Carlson... even if ole Tucker happens to be perfectly correct this one time:

Hilariously, Trump’s most ardent supporter in the House, crackpot Marjorie Traitor Greene (R-GA) is on Carlson’s side and is even teaming up with people like AOC, Ro Khanna, Rashida Tlaib, Bernie and Kentucky Republican Thomas Massie to pass a war powers resolution in an attempt, albeit most likely futile, to prevent Trump from attacking Iran without the permission from Congress the Constitution requires.

Emily Brooks reported yesterday that when Traitor Greene was asked if the U.S. should use its capabilities to bomb the Fordow site, she responded that her “office has been monitoring calls from constituents in my district and they overwhelmingly support my stance on staying out of this conflict and foreign wars. Getting involved in another conflict won’t bring down gas prices, lower grocery bills, or make rent more affordable. Me and my district support President Trump and his MAGA agenda, it’s what we voted for in November, and foreign wars weren’t a part of it.”

She isn’t the only extreme MAGAt breaking with Señor TACO over this. Extremist loon Charlie Kirk, “was more explicit in his warning. ‘America bombing Iran would be a direct escalation. Now, it would not be the same as bombing their oil fields, or even bombing the supreme leader. The most basic action would be, drop a bunker buster on their underground nuclear plant— and some claim that’s the only thing we have to do. I’ll say this to anyone that will listen: It’s very hard to stop a war when you want, and it’s hard to stop a war once you’re in the midst of a war. If we were to bomb Fordow, Iran would likely and probably consider this to be an act of war. Would they respond and try to target U.S. bases? Would they try and target U.S. troops? Would they activate sleeper cells within the interior of the United States?’”

Brooks also checked in with the truculent Ms Lindsey and noted that “Fueling the fears of the MAGA doves, some more hawkish Republicans have broached the subject of regime change— taking out Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei— while talking about the prospect of assisting Israel in bombing Iran. ‘Be all-in, President Trump, in helping Israel eliminate the nuclear threat. If we need to provide bombs to Israel, provide bombs. If we need to fly planes with Israel, do joint operations,’ Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said Monday on Fox News. ‘But here’s the bigger question: Wouldn’t the world be better off if the ayatollahs went away, and replaced by something better? It’s time to close that chapter soon, and start a new chapter in the Middle East, one of tolerance, hope, and peace,’ Graham said. Kirk slammed Graham on his radio show on Tuesday: ‘That’s pathologically insane, I’m sorry. It is. How do you know it’s going to be better?’”

Just 16% of Americans think the U.S. should get into a war with Iran. Trump doesn't care, does he?
