The House Voted To Legalize Marijuana Today-- McConnell Refuses To Allow A Senate Vote

Jerry Nadler's excellent marijuana legalization bill passed the House today, 228-164. There were 6 out-of-touch conservative Democrats who voted with the Republicans against it:

  • Cheri Bustos (New Dem-IL)

  • Henry Cuellar (Blue Dog-TX)

  • Conor Lamb (PA)

  • lame duck Dan Lipinski (Blue Dog-IL)

  • Chris Pappas (New Dem-NH)

  • lame duck Collin Peterson (Blue Dog-MN)

Debbie Wasserman Schulz (New Dem-FL), a despised figured and an anti-drug/pro-private prison fanatic, was persuaded at the last minute to drop her opposition and vote yes. Libertarian Justin Amash voted yes, as did 5 Republicans: Matt Gaetz (FL), Brian Mast (FL), Tom McClintock (CA), Dallas Riggleman (VA) and Don Young (AK).

Before the bill passed, the Republicans tried to kill it with a motion to recommit. 11 treacherous Democrats joined their tactical move:

  • Ed Case (Blue Dog-HI)

  • lame duck Joe Cunningham (Blue Dog-SC)

  • lame duck Tulsi Gabbard (HI)

  • Josh Gottheimer (Blue Dog-NJ)

  • Conor Lamb (PA)

  • lame duck Dan Lipinski (Blue Dog-IL)

  • Lucy McBath (New Dem-GA)

  • Chris Pappas (New Dem-NH)

  • Kurt Schrader (Blue Dog-OR)

  • Elisse Slotkin (New Dem-MI)

  • lame duck Xochitl Torres Small (Blue Dog-NM)

Don't light up yet; McConnell plans to kill the bill by not allowing a vote in the Senate. If you want to see a Senate vote, help elect Georgia Democrats Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock to replace David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler. That would kick McConnell out of his Senate Majority Leader seat and allow Chuck Schumer to bring the bill to a vote.
