Trump just can't keep his fat trap shut; as many of the people who had the misfortune of having worked for him say, he has very little self control. Even with his own MAGA based having turned on Putin-- 51% of Biden voters and 58% of Trump voters say the U.S. response against Russia would be tougher and only 12% of Trump voters think the U.S. is being too harsh-- Trump is still playing lovey-dovey with the Russian autocrat.
Jeanine Pirro had Trump on her wreck of a radio show Sunday and he told her that he believed his Russian benefactor is rebuilding the Soviet Union. "You say," asked Señor Trumpanzee rhetorically, "what's the purpose of this? They had a country. You could see it was a country where there was a lot of love and we're doing it because, you know, somebody wants to make his country larger or he wants to put it back the way it was when actually it didn't work very well.
Republicans in primaries who have followed Trump down the Putin rathole are being mercilessly attacked by their GOP opponents. In North Carolina, this Pat McCrory TV ad against North Carolina Trumpist Ted Budd is devastating. In Florida, Marco Rubio has no primary opponent, but Democrat Alan Grayson isn't letting him off the hook. "Rubio," he said wryly, "might have made a decent US foreign policy advisor in 1959, which is the last time that he noticed anything happening in the world... Even the former head of the RNC wants to know, 'Dude, what is wrong with you?'" That was after Rubio compromised Zelenskyy's security (life) to his Russian pals
Grayson also told me that 2 Rubio SuperPACs, Conservative Solutions and the Florida First Project, had accepted $1.5 million from Russian oligarch Leonid Blavatnik since the 2016 election cycle. That was when Blavatnik stopped being a bipartisan contributor and figured out that Republicans are on the same side he's on: the billionaire side and the Putin side. He hid his contributions by funneling them to Rubio through 2 of his shady holding companies, Access Industries (then owner of Warner Bros Records) and Al-Altep Holdings.
So far, unlike his besties Oleg Deripaska and Viktor Vekselberg, Blavatnik has escaped the sanctions that the U.S. and Britain are putting on kleptocrats tied to Putin. The British even sold him a knighthood and he goes around calling himself "Sir Leonid." He also have immense sums to two other pro-Putin gay Republicans, Moscow Mitch and Lindsey Graham. And speaking about scumbag oligarchs buying out the American political system, meet Andrey Muraviev, who was indicted yesterday for "making illegal political contributions as a foreign national, and conspiring to make illegal political contributions as a foreign national in the names of straw donors. Muraviev is charged with conspiring with Lev Parnas, Andrey Kukushkin, and Igor Fruman, and others, who were convicted at trial or have pleaded guilty to these crimes."
U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said: “As alleged, Andrey Muraviev, a Russian national, attempted to influence the 2018 elections by conspiring to push a million dollars of his foreign funds to candidates and campaigns. He attempted to corrupt our political system to advance his business interests. The Southern District of New York is committed to rooting out efforts by foreigners to interfere with our elections.”
FBI Assistant Director-in-Charge Michael J. Driscoll said: “As alleged, Muraviev, a Russian foreign national, made illegal political contributions and conspired with Parnas, Kukushkin and Fruman to obscure their true source. The money Muraviev injected into our political system, as alleged, was directed to politicians with views favorable to his business interests and those of his co-conspirators. As today’s action demonstrates, we will continue to aggressively pursue all those who seek to illegally effect our nation’s elections.”
Muraviev is on the lam, presumably in Russia. It's unclear who he gave all that money to since it was laundered through so many different frontman and organizations, although Trump, Ron DeSantis and Adam Laxalt were certainly three of the biggest recipients, as were other similarly crooked politicians in Florida, Nevada, Texas, New York and New Jersey.
