Right Wing Billionaires, Led By Odious Trump-Owner Jeff Yass, Are Coming After Summer Lee Again

Let's Make Sure Their Millions Are Flushed Away

Pennsylvania Congresswoman Summer Lee is one of the best overall members of Congress… so it makes perfect sense that rightwing billionaires are trying to defeat her again. In 2022, they poured $4.3 million into a vicious series of attacks against her, primarily coordinated by contemptible reactionary Mark Mellman from Democratic Majority For Israel and AIPAC’s GOP-financed SuperPAC United Democracy Project. Even with all that money spent against her, she still managed to narrowly defeat conservative Democrat Steve Irwin in the primary (by about a thousand votes out of over 114,000 cast) and then Republican Mike Doyle 56.2% to 43.8% in the general election.

Yesterday, Madison Fernandez reported that one of the most repulsive and predatory billionaires in the U.S.— Trump briber and anti-union psychopath Jeff Yass (who has hoarded almost $30 billion)— has been financing a PAC that is attacking Lee. He’s the richest man in Pennsylvania and thinks he has the right to determine who can hold office there. Many people think that predators who hoard that much money should face the death penalty but I’m not going to comment on that. 

Many Republicans claim Yass is an asset for the Chinese Communist Party and that he’s the one— by making a massive investment in Truth Social— who got Trump to do an about face on TikTok, of which Yass is a major shareholder. So far this cycle, he has put more money into political campaigns than anyone else in the country, $50 million to Republican groups legally and likely far more than that illegally (like the Truth Social bribe to Trump). He is also a major backer of Israel’s far right and he is helping to fund Israel’s genocide against Gazans. 

Yass has invested over a million dollars— probably closer to two million— so far in the anti-Summer Lee campaign on behalf of a right-wing Democrat named Bhavini Patel. This weekend I will be a co-host at a progressive fundraiser for Summer Lee here in Los Angeles.
