Chuck Schumer's "I'm going to write a 'strong letter' to President Trump" is now the equivalent of Susan Collins always saying that she's "concerned." Both of them are politicians from another time, another century in fact. Schumer has outlived his usefulness to the point where he's a detriment. I don't know of any evidence that Collins ever had much usefulness at all.
Schumer is a classic sad case of what I call a reactive politician, a politician who reacts to the past, a politician who reacts only to what has already happened rather than acting in accordance with a vision of tomorrow. I saw a lot of this kind of thing in the corporations I worked for during my career. We don't need people who don't react until the horses leave the barn. We need people who can plan ahead and make good things happen. I know Washington isn't about that. It's all about the status quo and the cash trough, but that's how we got here. For every Elizabeth Warren, AOC, or Bernie Sanders, there's a hundred bought and sold protectors of the status quo lining up to put a bag over their heads and beat them into submission. The solution to this is obvious and it begins with showing the guardians of the status quo their time is up.

Schumer must go along with all the other Alta Kockers. The norms of the past no longer apply.
