Is Her Motion To Vacate DOA?
MAGA Mike is being pummeled by his right flank— the flank he was most at home with before his weird and senseless elevation to Speaker. Marjorie Traitor Greene, who doesn’t so much as fart without approval from Señor T, claims she wasn’t acting alone when she filed— but didn’t introduce— a motion to vacate the chair last week when MM had the temerity to not shut down the government. Yesterday, she was on Fox’s Sunday Morning Futures where she defended her widely unpopular action, whining, as though she had the remotest idea what normal Americans want that “Americans are sick and tired of failure in the House of Representatives. We are barely hanging on to our republic, a nation in debt with over $34 trillion in debt. And we cannot have a Republican speaker of the House that is willing to do the bidding of Chuck Schumer, handing over the gavel to him, and letting him pass the Schumer House bill on the floor, and not allowing any of us Republicans to do our jobs.”
According to Statista, Greene is extremely disliked by the American public. Only 25% of adults who even know who she is feel positively about her, which means that even Republicans hate her— and this is before the latest stunt-- which is going down really badly among relatively normal Republicans!
Among her gripes is that MAGA Mike didn’t give them enough time to read the bill— just one day and the GOP rule is 72 hours. She’s also up in arms because he didn’t solve the situation at the border and that he “led us to a complete catastrophe. He passed a giant omnibus bill, the second part of it, this week on Friday after breaking the 72-hour rule, only giving Republicans a day to read 1,012 pages, and not allowing us to pass amendments to make any changes to this bill, which Chuck Schumer had stuck full of a Democrat wish list and kept the Biden catastrophe border policies going.”
Do I have any sympathy for MAGA Mike? Are you kidding? I hope the two of them get into a slapping fight on the House floor— when they get back from their long Easter holiday (while Ukrainians are being showered with missiles they can’t shoot down because the GOP wants to deliver good tidings for teh Trump-Putin axis).
This morning, CNN reported that “In a meeting Friday before Greene announced her intention to force a vote seeking Johnson’s ouster, the speaker already was telling Republicans he was ready to move on an aid package for Ukraine when they return. But it’s unclear what form that package will take… If Johnson were to announce he would take up the Senate’s $95 billion aid package, Democrats would vote in droves to keep him in the position.” If he allows his far right flank— who will vote against it anyway— to add some of their favorite poison pills, the only Dems who will vote to keep him as speaker are the worst of corporate puppets like Jared Golden and Josh Gottheimer. Manu Raju added that “Several House Republicans have also warned that Greene’s move to oust Johnson could cost them the House in November, though some hardliners are weighing whether they would ultimately vote to remove him.” Some of the most deranged extremists— like Chip Roy (TX), Ralph Norman (SC), Eli Crane, Matt Gaetz (AZ), Mark Green (TN), Tim Burchett (TN) all went on record saying they’re unwilling to back Traitor-Greene… at least for now.
AOC was on State of the Union yesterday and she wasn’t exactly sending MM any good cheer either. When Jake Tapper asked her how she would vote on Traitor Greene’s motion to vacate the chair, she responded “I think that Democrats, we work as a team. I am not inclined to vote for a Speaker Johnson. I'm not inclined to vote for an individual who— for speaker who doesn't believe in women's rights, doesn't believe in rights to bodily autonomy, who has supported overturning a presidential election. My vote would most likely be for a Speaker Jeffries, which becomes an increasingly likely reality day after day, as Republicans pursue further midterm resignations. But I think, for those of us and for any Democrat inclined, I don't think we do that for free. And I don't think that we do that out of sympathy for Republicans. And I think that the realities of governance are there. We want to make sure that that governance continues and that responsible governance continues, and that generally tends to happen under a Democratic majority.”
